Under what conditions does a running dry transformer need to be immediately powered off?
2024-04-09
The dry transformer in operation needs to be powered off immediately in the following situations:
- Transformer fire or smoke: If a fire or thick smoke occurs in the dry transformer, it may be due to internal short circuits, insulation material damage, or other serious faults. In this case, power must be cut off immediately to prevent the fire from spreading and to protect equipment and personnel safety.
- Abnormal oil temperature rise: Under normal load and cooling conditions, if the oil temperature of the dry transformer rises abnormally and continues to increase, it may be due to internal faults or poor heat dissipation. Excessively high oil temperatures can damage the transformer windings and insulation materials, so power must be cut off immediately for inspection and maintenance.
- Abnormal sounds and discharge noises: If the dry transformer emits abnormal sounds or discharge noises, it may be caused by internal electrical faults, insulation breakdown, or loose components. These sounds are warning signals of potential faults and should prompt immediate power cut for inspection.
- Severe oil leakage: If there is severe oil leakage from the dry transformer, causing the oil level to drop below a dangerous level, this will affect the cooling effect and insulation performance of the transformer. Therefore, power must be cut off immediately for maintenance and to replenish or replace the transformer oil.
- Insulator damage or discharge: If there is severe damage or discharge phenomena in the insulator of the dry transformer, this may lead to electrical faults and insulation breakdown. In this case, power should be cut off immediately to replace or repair the damaged insulator.
- Pressure relief valve opens or automatic oil spraying: If the pressure relief valve of the dry transformer opens or automatically sprays oil, it indicates that the internal pressure of the transformer is too high, possibly due to internal faults or overload. To avoid more serious consequences, power should be cut off immediately for maintenance.
- Gas relay alarm: If a gas relay is installed on the dry transformer and it emits an alarm signal, this indicates that there may be a fault inside the transformer. At this time, power should be cut off immediately for inspection and maintenance.
In addition, there are other situations that may also require immediate power cut, such as rupture of the transformer oil tank, rupture of explosion-proof membranes or pressure relief valves, overheating damage at conductive rod ends, etc. When these situations are discovered, swift action should be taken to ensure the safety of equipment and personnel.
Please note that operations and maintenance of dry transformers should be carried out by professionals. During power cuts and fault handling, relevant safety regulations and operational specifications should be followed to ensure personnel safety and equipment stability.
